Section 3: Case Study 3: Handling Abnormal Noise

Release Date:

2024-11-28

An KIMAIR air compressor at a certain factory began emitting abnormal noise during operation, severely impacting the working environment. Upon receiving the report, the maintenance team promptly went to the site for inspection.

The maintenance personnel inspected the compressor’s bearings and found that insufficient lubrication was causing noise during operation. They disassembled the bearings and discovered that the grease had dried out, necessitating replacement. The technicians then applied fresh grease and reinstalled the bearings, ensuring proper lubrication going forward.

However, the abnormal noise persisted. The maintenance team conducted a further inspection of the compressor’s belt and found that the belt tension was insufficient, causing it to slip during operation and generate noise. They adjusted the belt tension and performed a running test to ensure smooth operation.

Nevertheless, the noise problem has not yet been fully resolved. Maintenance personnel continued to inspect the compressor’s cylinders and discovered that the clearance between the pistons and the cylinder walls was excessively large, resulting in abnormal operating noise. They adjusted this clearance and conducted a leak test to ensure there were no internal leaks in the cylinders.

After the compressor was restarted, the abnormal noise was significantly reduced, and operation became smooth. To ensure the compressor’s long-term stable performance, the maintenance team recommends that the plant conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the bearings, belts, and cylinders to verify that all components are functioning properly. They also advise the plant to pay close attention to the lubrication system during routine maintenance, including scheduled grease replacement, to ensure adequate lubrication of all components.
